چکیده

Mercury flux from HgCl2-treated sand and untreated soil samples of varying thickness (0.5-15 mm) were measured in dark and light under a Teflon dynamic flux chamber. Mean emissions over a 5.5-d sampling period showed an increase with depth for sand samples between 0.5 and 2 mm, but increasing depth above 2 mm had no effect. First-order kinetic models showed strong goodness of fit to the data and explained a high degree ofvariability in the emissions profile of all sand samples (R = 0.70-0.98). Soil samples showed an initial emissions peak that was not correlated with depth, suggesting a very shallow process at work. However, longer-term "baseline" emissions, measured as mean emissions between days 4.5 and 5.5, did show a relationship with depth. First-order kinetic models showed good fit for soil samples up to 4 mm thick (R2 = 0.66-0.91); however, thicker samples did not show a consistent fit to first- or second-order kinetic models (1 degree R2 = 0.00-0.46; 2 degree R2 = 0.00-0.54). The data suggest that mercury emissions from soil samples may follow a multicomponent model for which more

Application of Differential Kinetic Method Using ANN with a New Synthetic Reagent for Simultaneous Spectrophotometric Determination of Mercury and Palladium

A new selective reagent was used for simultaneous determination of mercury and palladium in real samples with their different kinetic spectrophotometric properties. The method is based on the difference in the rate of the oxidation reaction of the recently synthesized reagent, nitro benzoyl diphenylmethylen phosphorane (N-BDMP), with Hg2+ and Pd2+. The kinetic profiles were monitored and record...

An Investigation of Land-Use Effect on Dust Concentration and Soil Loss in Desert Areas: A Case of Ein Khosh-Dehloran, Ilam

Extended abstract 1- Introduction The occurrence of dust storms caused by wind erosion is a process that causes the destruction of land and can also be considered as a desertification indicator (Xu, 2006). Generally, the formation of a dust storm depends on three factors: the presence of strong winds, a sensitive surface to wind erosion and unstable weather conditions (Xia and Yang, 1996). Hu...

An Experimental Investigation into the Arching Effect in Fine Sand

In the current paper results of a well instrumented experimental procedure for studying the arching effect in loose and dense sand are presented. The apparatus comprises concentric circular trapdoors with different diameters that can yield downward while stresses and deformations are recorded simultaneously. As the trapdoor starts to yield, the whole soil mass deforms elastically. However, afte...

Investigation of Equilibrium Isotherm and Kinetic Modeling to Asses Sorption Characteristics of Nitrate onto Palm Leaf Biochar

Application of agriculture residue especially in biochar form seems to be effective in the removal of contaminants such as nitrate pollution. The effectiveness of biochar produced from palm leaf residues (pyrolyzed at 600 ˚C) in the removal of nitrate from aqueous solution was studied at different pH. The pH value at the point of zero charges (pHpzc) and surface functional groups...
